On
Dec17th, as Amundsen and his men planted their country's flag, a British
explorer called Robert Scott Falcon and his men were fighting their way
across a mass of 800 miles which was between their base camp near
today’s U.S McMurdo station and the pole.
Their
route was to the west of that followed by Amundsen and his party.

On
Jan 18th , Scott and his party reached the pole, only to find a tent
with a note Amundsen had written to the King of Norway that he
wanted
Scott to deliver for him.
Scott
and Amundsen’s teams both left behind a couple of supply caches that had some
much-needed supply of food and fuel.

Amundsen’s
team got back to their ship which was at the coast and they got back to
Tasmania on March 17th 1912, and from there they were able to
send a telegram that told the world that they had reached Antarctica.
Scott and his team were getting weaker and iller as they pulled their
sledge’s back to where their ship was waiting. Finally all five died.
