Arab Horses

Introduction 

There are lots of different breeds of horses but the Arab is the oldest purebred breed of horse in the world. The Arabian is well known for their elegance and purity of blood.  Many modern Warm-bloods are related to the Arab along the way. People use the Arab for showing, dressage, endurance and eventing.  They have many great abilities.  They used to have Arab racing.

 

 

Different Names for Arabs 

There are a couple of different names for the Arabs.They are Straight Egyptian, Anglo Arab, French Arab, Polish Arab, Russian Arab and the Spanish Arab.They are the same as the Middle Eastern Arabs. 

 

How to Recognize an Arab 

Arabs only come in solid colours.They are bay, roan, grey, chestnut and black. The Arab can grow from 14.2hh up to 15hh.

The Arab has seventeen ribs (other breeds have eighteen ribs), five lumbar vetebrae (others have six), and sixteen tail vetebrae (others have eighteen).The Arab cannot be mistaken for any other breed.

 
Arabs have a small head, broad forehead, fine muzzle like silk, big nostrils, small ears, throat set into an arched curve, graceful movements, curving neck, long and sloping shoulders, well shaped withers; deep and roomy body with a broad chest, level back, high set tail, hard and clean legs, well shaped feet, silky coat, mane and tail.Arabs have kehailan (beautiful eyes) that attract people.The Arabs eyes are more oval then any other breeds. 

 

 

History 

They have been around since 2,000-3,000 BC.  The Arab horse has survived for hundreds of years in the desert that is now called Arabia, so the Arab has great stamina and endurance.
 
Arabs were brought to Europe many centuries ago and only the rich people had them because they were very expensive.  The people who live in the Middle East call them Barbs or Turks.  The Arab is very friendly because the desert people used to keep them in their tents.

Arab blood has been brought into many of the best bloodlines in the world. Horses that have won lots of prizes in eventing and things like that most likely have Arab in them.  Three famous Arabians were transported to England where the first thoroughbred was made. The English Thoroughbred is related to the Arab.  Some people say that if you have a grey Thoroughbred that it is related to the Arab.

 

 

Arab Relatives       

Because Arabs are beautiful and strong they have mated with other breeds to make new and better breeds.The horses all look different but they all have Arab blood in them.Some breeds are: Andalusion, Welsh Mountain Pony and Percheron.

 

Care of Arabs 

The Arab horse is lively and not very good for a beginner.They have been known to take off if something scares them or if the rider confuses them.The Arab is better for experienced people.If you are looking for your second showing, dressage, endurance or eventing horse then the Arab is for you.They are very intelligent.
 
In winter the Arab should wear a rug and be put in a stable.They have a very fine coat.If your Arab has been clipped, put a light rug on it during the day and a neck rug and winter rug for night time.They needs lots of food such as chaff (lucerne or oaten) and hay.Pellets are good as well.“Breeda” is good and keeps your horse’s teeth down.    Arabs need lots of exercise and should be let out of their stable for a few hours everyday.

 

 
The French Arab
   Lots of people like the French Arabs because of their good looks.The French Arab is the best Arab for racing.They are very fast, useful and athletic.

The Polish Arabian is not as fast as the French Arab.This has been proven by racing the two different Arabs against each other. The French Arabian was miles ahead.
