SPRING BAY LOCAL HISTORY...

Celebrating the Year of the Older Person

Introducing us:
We are Grade 4 from a 3/4 class. There are only nine of us. There are five boys and four girls. We have been learning to research our local area.

It was fun learning this way because we got to work outside the classroom a lot of the time.
We went on three excursions and interviewed three local members of our community.

We liked the topics we chose and we became interested in Orford's history. We understand a little of how people lived and are glad we weren't part of it.

History tells us how people used to live. It helps us to understand our families and backgrounds. History helps us understand older people in our community.

This is the street entrance to our school.
Back to Orford Day
We are holding a "Back to Orford School" day in early December 1999.

We will be inviting all ex-students and staff to return to Orford School to look at the new building, look at what happens in the classroom now, and remember their school days.

There will be a display of photographs of Orford district and school history.

For the year 2000 there will be a calendar  made which will show old photos from the schools in our area (Orford, Triabunna, Levendale and Swansea.) This calendar will distributed to celebrate the year 2000.
