Chinese Dragons

    Tradition

The Chinese use the dragons for protection from evil spirits and from bad luck.. In Ancient China dragons did not breathe fire. They protected valuable metal and gems. They even protected the rain, river, and wind but they were wise and caring.

In China they have a traditional New Years Day Festival. A group of people will dance through the streets wearing a dragon costume. They use a dragon so no evil spirits will spoil the rest of the new year.

Another traditional Chinese belief is that certain dragons control the rainfall for each year’s harvest. Sometimes you will usually find the dragon a leadership role.

In China they mostly use the dragon as the leader of the carnival. They sometimes use a beautiful baby dragon. A child will wear the costume. It is meant to attract more attention from the crowd.

Dragon Myths

Legends say that green dragons mean it is a male symbol. The Chinese dragon is green and it flies in the direction of east, its element is fire and wood. The season it appears in is spring and the most food it likes is liver.

White dragons are meant to form things into gold.

Purple dragons form their spit into rock crystals and the sea dragon scares special people and protects the fishing boats.

When dragons leave their home in China they loose their toes and when they come back their toes grow back..

If you kill a dragon then you will gain wealth.

The Chinese dragon has five toes. The Korean dragon has four and the Japanese has three.

The Year of the Dragon

According to Chinese astrology if you were born on any of these years then you were born on the year of the dragon.

Dragon Life

If you were born in a Year of the Dragon, here are some of the things that might be true about your personality.

A dragon has such a wonderful personality and so much power. It desires to succeed to reach the top of its chosen profession. A dragon can make mistakes like the wrest of us but it won’t believe it. The dragon loves the feeling of freedom even if it has a large family. A dragon is similar to a tiger because they both are wild and they both want to take the lead.  They both speak their minds with out warring about the other.

A Dragon Story

A long time ago the Chinese had a monster called ‘Nian’ chasing after them. One day they found out that Nian hated the colour red and too much noise. They planed that next time Nian came they would fly a big red flag and make lots of noise with instruments.  When Nian came they were the ones to scare him away. Ever since then Nian has never returned. That is why they have a dragon for protection in the years.

Smallest Dragon

The Komodo dragon is the smallest Dragon of any predator.  It is 60ft long.

 

Largest dragon

The largest dragon is a flying dragon. It is 230ft long.
