Our Paper

Our class decided to set the example and trying very hard to cut down on the paper we throw out.  We save all paper that has space on it for writing or printing.  We use the backs of all our old stencils and things that have been printed from the computer.

Paper that is really good is reused in the computer printers.  Paper that is not so good is cut into smaller pieces for us to use for testing spelling, tables or practising words.
We do not screw up paper in our class any more.  This was a very hard habit to break.  When we have used every space we can find on a piece of paper it goes into a classroom tray.

At the end of every day or two we shred it in the office.   Many people in our class then take the shredded paper home to use in hutches and bedding for other small animals.
We decided that we were confident enough with our own habits to start training the rest of the school.  We put an item on in Assembly and demonstrated out paper-saving to the whole school.  Now every class tries their hardest to save paper.

We know that our whole school has shown improvement because our cleaner said that she was amazed by the small amount of rubbish we now have our classroom bins. Our office person also praised our efforts because she said that this year the school has ordered far less paper than ever before.  Our teacher assistant said that this year we used up the back of all the old stencils in the photocopying pile back to 1998.

If we can all start thinking about the way we use paper, we can not only save a lot of trees and cut down on school rubbish but we can save our school lots of money as well.
